Embarking on this extraordinary journey, Mark Baigent, under the expert guidance of Nora Gasparini, the visionary perfumer and founder of L'Atelier Parfums et Créations, dedicated themselves to the meticulous refinement of their perfumery skills.
"Nora was the person who taught me so much about perfume making and about how creating a perfume is not about smelling but about recreating memories. So the goal was to capture the memories of the last thirty years of my life with scents where each decade should be represented by three ingredients".
In the first decade, the memories of Mark Baigent's childhood home filled the air with the aroma of coffee, which paradoxically became associated with a sense of aversion. Simultaneously, this period nurtured a profound love for herbs and spices such as Rosemary and Javanese pepper, which later played a significant role in the third decade of their life.
The essence of "EnBy" was born from the desire to harmonise these elements with the accompanying memories.
Stepping into the second decade, their teens, Mark embarked on a journey of self-discovery. The vibrant cultural landscape of the 60s fascinated the designer, represented by the intoxicating scents of patchouli and oud, deeply rooted in the Middle East and India.
The final decade symbolised Mark's transformative journey through Indonesia. Tobacco and pepper became constant companions and were associated with the essence of the regions of central Java and the city of Yogjakarta. And finally, Bali, portrayed by the scent of the frangipani flower, the most beloved flower in the country, emerged as a poignant representation in the perfume.
Through carefully selecting and fusing these scents, "EnBy" captures the multidimensional chapters of Mark Baigent's life, celebrating personal growth and honouring the diverse cultural influences that have shaped their identity.
